1930's Beacon Ombré Robe

Woodland shades of green and brown ombré wool and cotton Beacon robe with non-original twisted rope belt. Shawl collar and front pockets. Wear as a robe or as a duster jacket. Nicely worn as expected from a well-loved 1930’s garment.

These ombré blankets and robes are hard to come by as they all date pre-1950’s. The Beacon company invented a technique to create this ombré fabric using a combination of recycled cotton and wool. The ombré process was abandoned in the 1950’s when synthetic fabrics were introduced as a more cost efficient  alternative. An arsonist burned the factory building in 2003 about a year after Beacon officially closed and the factory was shuttered. It is rumored that this secret ombré technique was lost in the fire.
